Inverdruie is perfectly positioned to explore the local area. For the
out door enthusiast, the ski grounds of
Cairngorm Mountain are only a ten minute drive. From here, the serious hill walkers
and
climbers have access to
some of the most remote areas of Scotland, with enough terrain to keep
the most enthusiastic happy for weeks. The
Lecht
ski area (about one hours drive) offers alternative skiing if conditions
are uncertain.
Mountain Bikers have no better base than Inverdruie. Local shop,
Bothy Bikes
can organise bike hire (can be booked in advance) and repairs.
Low level walkers and ramblers are spoilt for choice with numerous local
walks around
Rothiemurchus Forest Loch an Eilean and
Glenmore.
Pop into
Loch an Eilein Pottery and Penny Weir will teach you to ‘throw’ your own pot!!
For children, the Landmark Centre in Carrbridge is Speyside’s Mini
Disneyworld. Other local attractions include the
Strathspey Railway,the
Wildlife Centre at Kincraig and the Funhouse at the Coylumbridge Hotel - an
all-weather base for 3 – 16 year olds.
Loch Morlich watersports Centre offers hire and tuition
for kayaking, wind Surfing and traditional sailing.
A must for the whisky enthusiast is a day on the
Malt Whisky Trail – Visit one of the many Distilleries which have fantastic visitor
centres offering tours and tastings. (Who’s the driver??)
For fans of the BBC series
Monarch of the Glen, an enjoyable day can be spent spotting the various setting used
for the filming, including Broomhill Station (on the Strathspey line)
and Ardverikie House on Loch Laggan.
Eating Out – Aviemore has numerous eating establishments, however, we
recommend
The Old Bridge Inn – 15 minutes walk - great food, and a fantastic range of cask
beers.
If you fancy a short drive, Anderson’s Restaurant is only 10 minutes
down the back road and has a great Bistro atmosphere. There is live
entertainment in the Old Bridge Inn most evenings.
There are various local festivals including
Strathspey in May and Carrbridge holds a variety of musical festivals, and of course
the World Porridge Making Championships in the Autumn.
